T&M reader John Minshall tells the story of his latest project - a pre-Force 4000. My interest in tractors started at an early age, when I learned to drive my dad's Ferguson TE-20 at the age of six. I used to move from bale to bale when collecting from the hayfields. We did some daft things in the 1950s, but I think it gave us a bit of an edge in life! After leaving school I did a part-time agricultural engineering course and tractors have always been my passion, which leads nicely to my current situation. After being forced into early retirement, I needed a project. It started with an engine rebuild on my son-in-law's International 454 scraper tractor. A connecting rod had gone through the side of the block and as it's hard to find these small tractors to go into smaller sheds, the decision to rebuild was made.
