Coal India supplied 371.8 million tonnes (mt.) of coal to the power sector in the past 10 months till January 2018, reporting a growth 6.8 per cent against the same period last year. Coal supplied to non-power sector in the April-January period of FY2018 was up by 8.8 per cent at 103.1 mt over the corresponding period last year. Coal India said steps have been taken to increase thre offtake and after sustained effort, an all-time high rake loaded could be achieved. It achieved a 300 rakes a day in January. Average rake loading to the thermal powr plant has also increased from a level of 209.8 rake a day in October 2017 to 226 rakes a day in February 2018 - a growth of 6.53 per cent. "About 14.5 mt coal stock at power house was recorded on February 5, 2018 compared to 8.5 mt on September 30, 2017," the miner said, adding that Coal India has huge potential to increase coal production in the peak period of January to March. "CIL had produced 66 mt of coal during March 2017 and the company is poised to surpass what was produced last year in that period. Since the past one month, daily production has taken over daily despatch, which means coal is added to the stock everyday and as on date, coal stock is more than 34 mt," Coal India said.
