Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell Model

As a graduate student I had the opportunity to work as an intern in Shimshon Gottesfeld's group at Los Alamos National Laboratory. It was the summer of 1990, and 1 shared an office with Tom Springer, Tom Zawodzinski, and Mahlon Wilson. A renaissance of sorts in PEM fuel cells was being led by the team at Los Alamos. The atmosphere was exhilarating. Of the many publications from this group, none was more influential than the 1991 paper "Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell Model," which has averaged more than seventy citations per year with a total of just under 2000 citations to date (Web of Science.
