Funding boosts African locust fight

An increase in funding has enabled the UN FAO to expand its operations to control the locust plague in north-west Africa.The organisation now has us14.7 million in cash,with a further us40 million of pledged contributions for the project.The FAO is also providing around us6 million from its own resources,and expects around us12 million to come in unconfirmed donor assistance.Canada,the US,the UK,the Netherlands,Norway,France,Italy and the UN Development Programme have all provided aid,the FAO says.
