The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on May 21 authorized the Alaska LNG export terminal and a related pipeline, advancing the goal of a state-run corporation to get the struggling project through permitting before turning it over to private interests. But the approval in a 3-1 vote along party lines spurred sharp criticism from FERC’s lone Democratic commissioner, Richard Glick. He said the agency is rushing to approve LNG export projects that stand little chance of advancing to construction, especially since the coronavirus pandemic began roiling global markets.
