Vaca muerta producers turn to exports

A downturn in Argentinian demand has cast a shadow over the short-term future of the country’s vast Vaca Muerta shale region. But frms are fnding new export outlets for their crude, which could provide the domestic industry with a lifeline. Oil production in the western province of Neuquen, where most of Vaca Muerta is located, jumped by more than a ffth from May to 160,000 b/d in June. This was down from a March peak of 170,000 b/d, but still 19pc higher on the year.
