A system LSI with voice applications is a key component in home telephones, so improvements in this LSI are able to improve the overall quality of the telephone. We have developed a system LSI, called the LC85050, with voice applications on an original digital signal processor (DSP) for use in home telephones. In addition to basic telephone functions, such as a speech CODEC and an echo canceller, the LC85050 includes text-to-speech technology for verbally announcing the caller's name, and voice recognition technology for operating the telephone by voice commands. The voice recognition technology employs a neural network that allows the telephone to be operated without having to pre-enter the voice commands.
