PART 1 IMLEC 2019

Held on an annual basis, this event by tradition takes place during the first half of July and is open to all steam locomotives of 5 and 31/2 inch gauge, capable of being driven on a raised track. This year's competition was organized by Leyland Society of Model Engineers and held at their track in Worden Park over the weekend of the 12th to 14th July. As a member of the above and having been 'volunteered' to act as competition co-ordinator, I had watched preparations gaining momentum as the designated weekend approached. By mid-morning, Friday July 12th, time-clock, scoreboards, TV monitors and all other items of IMLEC furniture were in place. Gazebos varying in shape and size could be seen at selected locations whilst an area of grass within the circuit of the running track was now dominated by a 20ft × 30ft marquee. Once fully erected, this rather large tent would be under the supervision of the ladies of the society who were to have full control over the weekend's catering needs. The plan was to serve food and refreshments from the marquee leaving the clubhouse free for food preparation and results calculations.
