Coal India’s output falls as Covid-19 hits outlook

Coal production and supplies to buyers by India’s state- controlled mining frm Coal India (CIL) fell in April compared with the previous year, with the Covid-19 pandemic denting consumption and clouding its growth plans. CIL’s April output fell by 11pc from a year earlier to 40.38mn t, according to provisional company data. The latest fall follows four consecutive months of year-on-year increases and comes amid a gradual build in domestic coal stocks, which have risen amid reduced oftake.
