Valero applied to make modifcations that would in- crease alkylation production at its 250,000 b/d refinery in St. Charles, Louisiana. The US independent refiner did not identify how much modifcations to its alkylation unit would increase production or when the company planned to com- plete the project. Valero did not respond to a request for comment. Such permit applications can be made months or even years ahead of construction, or for projects ultimately cancelled by the applicant. The refiner proposed adding two new storage tanks, process equipment including an alkylation sphere and boilers and a cooling tower. The same permit pro- poses upgrades to its gasoline blending equipment and dock air emissions equipment, as well as modifcations to improve the efciency of a continuous catalytic reforming heater.
