Australian coal rail dispute nears resolution

Members of the Australian Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) will vote on an enterprise agreement that should bring to an end to industrial action at rail company Pacific National’s coal haulage business in New South Wales (NSW). The two parties have been locked in negotiation over the past two months, mediated by the Australian Fair Work Commission. They have now agreed on an enterprise agreement that the RTBU will put to its members for approval. The unionapproved deal is likely to be accepted, bringing to an end the dispute that has halted around 90 trains delivering coal to Newcastle port and Port Kembla on two occasions.
