Do individuals with Angelman syndrome have a maladaptive behavior?

To the Editor: Do individuals with Angelman syndrome have a maladaptive behavior? According to the recent publication by Sadhwani et al. (Sadhwani, Willen, LaVelle, et al., 2019), the answer is yes. Using structured parental interviews and a standardized questionnaire, it was concluded that individuals with Angelman syndrome, despite their apparently happy demeanor, exhibit maladaptive or challenging behaviors, which are dysfunctional and interfere with their ability to interact well in social environments (Sadhwani et al., 2019). In my opinion, yes remains a too simplistic answer, and as also mentioned by the authors, it is critical to discuss the possible biomedi-cal and psychological triggers of the maladaptive behavior in order to identify effective behavioral and psychopharmacological treatments (Sadhwani et al., 2019).
