Free rein for recreational shooters in our national parks will hinder pest management, not reinforce it. AS OF OCTOBER, recreational hunting has been permitted in NSW national parks. Initially, 12 parks were opened to licensed amateur hunters but sport shooting could soon be allowed in up to 75 national parks, nature reserves and state conservation areas. The NSW government says game hunters are allowed to be in these protected areas because recreational shooting helps park managers control feral pests.
