Australian LNG exports below target

Exports of Australian LNG are likely to reach 58.1mn t in the fiscal year to 30 June 2018, National Australia Bank (NAB) says. This is well below the government’s target of 63.3mn t, reflecting the fact that a number of LNG plants are operating below nameplate capacity. There are two LNG terminals still under construction in Australia — the 3.6mn t/yr Prelude floating LNG venture offshore Western Australia and the 8.9mn t/yr Ichthys LNG in Darwin — which when complete will give Australia a nameplate export capacity of around 85mn t/yr, NAB says in its latest Natural Gas and LNG Market Outlook. Both Prelude and Ichthys are expected to start shipments before the end of the 2017-18 year.
