A measurement of US economic output contracted in April at its fastest recorded pace as the efects of the Covid-19 con- tainment eforts registered for their frst full month. The fash US composite output index fell to 27.4 in April from 40.9 in March, when pandemic containment eforts began halfway through the month, according to the IHS Markit com- posite purchasing managers index (PMI).
