Light-emitting diodes can potentially reduce electricity consumption and decrease the impact of green house gas emissions by utilizing semiconductors to generate artificial light. However, this technology has so far served at traffic signals and laser pointers and is yet to move to household and offices-the largest consumer of electricity. This is mainly because households and offices require bright white light that is available cheaply and efficiently.
