The water resources scarcity is becoming one of the major problems in agriculture. At the same time the food security is closely linked to water security. In order to cope up with future need the country for water and food, it is necessary to have a holistic approach to produce maximum with limited amount of water availability. In this paper an approach has been suggested which can help to enhance the water productivity of important crops in eastern Uttar-Pradesh of northern India. This paper also addresses spatial and temporal availbilty of water resources in the Kadipur block of Sultanpur district for improvement of water use efficiency (WUE). The water use efficiency for major crops of the study area i.e. rice, wheat and sugarcane were found under farmer's practices of irrigation as 41.57, 76.91 and 994.43 kg / ha-cm respectively. After applying scientific practices it has consequently increases to 48.43, 77.27 and 1105.80 kg / ha-cm. The per cent increase in water use efficiency was found as 16.50, 0.47 and 11.20 kg / ha-cm.
