Certainly not! As it happens, at this very moment the electrochemical capacitor industry is expanding at a double-digit rate. This is due at least in part to the fact that the applications in which electrochemical capacitors are used are themselves growing at even greater rates. Electrochemical capacitors simply provide the lowest cost solution for that wealth of applications. While industry growth does of course increase when costs are lower, in this case this is not really necessary. Solutions are invariably selected that are intended to meet the performance requirements of the application in question. But the larger context of such a selection also generally dictates a solution based upon a wider range of cost factors, including, ease of implementation, availability of components, safety of operation end of life disposal, and many more. For large-volume applications, of course, cost will always be a lead driver. The claim that the price of electrochemical capacitors is a price barrier and stands in the way of industry expansion is simply incorrect.
