Anatolian Eagle

After marking its 10th anniversary in 2011, 'Anatolian Eagle' (or 'Anadolu Kartali' in local parlance) continues to grow in stature. This year's event was no exception, with another successful exercise taking place at its established venue of Konya air base. THREE DIFFERENT 'Anatolian Eagle' exercises are planned each year, with the first instalment of 2012 running in the first two weeks of April, and the third between 24 September and 5 October. These two exercises, named AE 12-1 and 12-3, are not open to international partners and only cater for the Turk Hava Kuvvetleri (Turkish Air Force), as well as the Turk Kara Kuvvetleri (Turkish Army) and Turk Deniz Kuvvetleri (Turkish Navy). It is the second AE of the year that sees participation by friendly international air forces. Since its inception in 1991, 13 different nations have flown to Turkey to take part in the two-week intensive flying programme.
