Canada’s main chemicals industry trade body says that the federal government’s system for reporting information on substances has gone well. The inventory, known as the Domestic Substances List (DSL), was first published nearly 20 years ago and needs to be updated (see sidebar). Since then, there have been periodic updates of the commercial status of certain substances to inform actions on priority substances under the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP). The first phase of the DSL inventory update was undertaken in 2009 to revise the commercial status of approximately 550 substances.
