Astudy involving a Canadian researcher might just change the way we think about the notorious problem of plastic waste in the world's oceans. The study, published in September by researchers from Canada and South Africa, suggests that Chinese merchant ships — and not land-based sources — might be the leading cause of plastic debris floating in the Atlantic Ocean. One of the study authors, Robert Ronconi, is affiliated with the Canadian Wildlife Service, Environment and Climate Change Canada, in Dartmouth, N.S.
