THE STRUCTURAL PERFORMANCE OF PRECAST CONCRETE

During the Roman Empire, the use of concrete was widespread in many structures, a key event in the history of architecture and was termed the concrete revolution as it allowed for revolutionary new designs in both structural complexity and dimension. The Baths of Caracalla in Rome are just one example of the longevity of concrete, which allowed them to build this and similar structures across the Empire. Many Roman aqueducts and bridges have masonry cladding to a concrete core, a technique they used in structures such as the Pantheon, the dome of which is concrete.
