Since starting as a Service Engineer in the 1980s when he first met Dr Werner Wittmann,Barry Hill's career in plastics has seen him loyal to the Austrian-based family firm's journey in the UK market.Establishing Wittmann UK in Wellingborough in 1986 for the sale of plastics ancillaries,Hill was firmly at the helm 11 years ago when the parent firm took over injection moulding machinery manufacturer,Battenfeld. He has since been leading the successful growth of the business."From when I started, the industry has changed hugely,"Hill explained."Back then, moulding was a black art and any operator who stuck the job for more than two weeks automatically became a setter! Of course, you have to consider that then, moulding machines had no transducers for position or pressures and,as I came from the CNC machine tool industry,it was like going back in time."
