The level of obtaining trustworthy and timely information about parameters of technological process is a "bottleneck" in the development of process control systems. For metallurgical processes, chemical composition of obtained products and some of their physical properties (coarseness, humidity, density etc) are among the most important quality parameters, because they determine as consequent processing technology, as well general extraction of useful components. Two principally methodologically different variants of solving the problem of lack of information about the most important parameters of technological process are observed on the example of concrete developments. Presented examples showed that lack of information about the process can be compensated by usage of the device for estimation and forecast - as distinct, based on knowledges about mathematical description of the object, as well as fuzzy, using production experience of technologists.
