I read this article1 with the finding of liponecrotic pseudocysts following fat injection into the breast with interest. I also note that these were patients of an institution other than that of the authors. This type of complication would probably not be found in the practice of those skilled like Dr. Erol et al. I suspect the complications noted were more a matter of technique than a basic fault in the concept of fat transfer. In my series of 650 cosmetic breast augmentations using fat transfer (autologous fat transplantation), there was a 1.25 percent incidence of microcalcifications, all of which were detectable only on follow-up mammogra-phy. Criteria that I have previously outlined were more than sufficient to determine the benign nature of these calcifications, and no surgical interventions were necessary. I believe that in these cases the cause was simply the excess of fat injected into a single site.
