Singapore—Asia metallurgical coal prices remained steady as end- users retreated from spot market amid a mismatch in buyers’ and sellers’ price expectations. S&P Global Platts assessed Premium Low Vol steady at $116/mt FOB Australia, and PLV CFR China steady at $129/mt CFR China July 2. In China, market saw mixed opinions on price directions and most of the buyers chose to adopt a cautious stand after seeing an uptick on PLV CFR prices. “Sellers are holding their offers since firm demand for PLV is seen in the market. However, I think downward pressure on seaborne price is also evident given stricter port clearance policies,” a North China end-user said.
