Australian exports down 5% in 2017

Australia’s coal exports fell 19.8 mt or 5% in 2017 to 371.87 mtfrom 391.68 mt in 2016, the latest data from the AustralianBureau of Statistics show.Thermal coal exports from the country were down 1% year onyear, to 200.04 mt from 201.87 mt.The 1.8 mt decline was largely supply side driven, withindustrial action impacting Glencore’s thermal coal operations inNew South Wales and some logistical constraints in the same statein November. These factors limited what was expected to be a flatresult on the year.
