Shell's $1.8 Bn Q2 loss

Shell recorded a loss of US $18.1 Bn in Q2 2020 due to huge impairments as it cut its price out-look in response to the coronavirus pandemic and the oil price crisis. The $18.1 Bn compared to a profit of $3 Bn in Q2 2019. Shell said the Q2 2020 figure included an impairment charge of $16.8 Bn post-tax, $22.3 Bn pre-tax, as a result of revised medium and long-term price and refining margin outlook assump-tions in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and macroeconomic conditions, as well as energy market demand and supply fundamentals.
