Mexico Lifts Fuel Price Controls

As of Nov. 30, Mexico’s Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) will no longer publish maximum prices for gasoline and diesel, as officials continue opening the country’s downstream to greater competition. After originally planning to fully lift price controls across all Mexican states at the end of 2018, authorities decided to get ahead of the game. They had been gradually liberalizing prices across different states since the start of 2017, but were forced to slow things down after widespread rioting broke out in reaction to changes (IOD Jan.19’17).
