US President Donald Trump again opted to stave off a suite of economic sanctions — including measures expressly targeting the oil sector — against Iran under the 2015 international nuclear deal. He instead sanctioned 14 Iranian entities and persons purportedly linked to human rights violations and Iran’s ballistic missile program. “Despite my strong inclination, I have not yet withdrawn the United States from the Iran nuclear deal,” Trump said in a statement Friday. “Instead, I have outlined two possible paths forward: either fix the deal’s disastrous flaws, or the United States will withdraw.”
