This paper reviews some of the recent developments in Computational Thermodynamics andreaction kinetics pertaining to the precipitation of inclusions in Al-killed and semi-killed carbon andstainless steels. The interest is not only in the chemical nature of the inclusions, but also on theirphysical nature (glassy or crystallized), morphology and size distribution in the cast product. Thisinformation is important not only to understand and minimize inclusion - induced defects in the finalsteel product, but also to enhance the potential positive role of oxide inclusions, for instance in theconcept of “Oxides Metallurgy”[1].
