Samarco has to pay deposit against future damage

A year on from the fatal collapse of the Fundao tailings dam in the Rio Doce valley of southeastern Brazil,operator Samarco and joint venture owners Vale and BHP Billiton have been ordered to deposit BRL1.2 bn($353 M, ?325 M) to guarantee future damage payments.A Brazilian court ordered the companies to make the payment within 30 days. It also gave them 90 days toprove that leakage from the tailings dam has definitively stopped and six months to present a plan to cleanup waste from the failure.
