Funding issue

I enjoyed the stimulating 6th annual School of Pharmacy New Year lecture on 17 January (PJ, 26 January 2013, p75). The lecture was delivered at the Royal Society by Sue Sharpe, chief executive of the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee. The subject was "From making medicines to optimising health". It was delivered delivered rapidly and with conviction. According to Mrs Sharpe, there are two pillars of care that currently support the NHS. These are GP-led primary care and secondary care. She said the NHS urgently needs community pharmacy as the third pillar of care to survive the future.
