Prostate cancer may be linked with hormones in environment

LOW levels of oral contraceptives in the environment could be associated with increased rates of prostate cancer, according to a study published in BMJ Open this week (14 November 2011). Researchers from the University of Toronto found that oral contraceptive use was associated with prostate cancer incidence in individual countries worldwide (Pearson correlation [r] 0.61, P<0.05), in Europe (r=0.545; P<0.05) and by continent (r=0.522; P<0.05).
