An accessible service for women

I was interested to read Beth Taylor's reflections on the provision of NHS-funded emergency hormonal contraception in pharmacies in south London (PJ, 28 January 2011, pl08).This is similar to services that I established about the same time in north London, principally in Barnet, Enfield and Haringey, and then in North Hertfordshire.I was the local Centre for Pharmacy PostgraduateEducation tutor and the workshops that we organised to support this new role were oversubscribed on a level unprecedented at that time. As in south London, EHC services developed successfully in north London, too, because there was a funding stream and there was support from commissioners, from the primary care trust board, and from other professions. Basically, everyone worked together as a team and this is precisely the formula needed for commissioning services for community pharmacy.
