The Society should take the lead

Until relatively recently,the menace of counterfeit medicines was a problem for developing countries,but it has now reached Britain.An Article on the topic(PJ,21 February 2009,pl93)summarised the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's advice to its members as being,in effect:"have a good look at what you supply and whence you obtain it".My grandfather was a master varnish maker and his notebooks indicate that this was the sort of quality assurance he undertook when purchasing raw materials over a century ago.The Society's advice might be appropriate for a trade association to give nowadays to,say,grocers.Pharmacy,however,claims to be a science-based profession.
