To date our understanding of HRQOL outcomes in patients with bladder cancer has been hampered by the lack of a truly versatile, validated, reliable questionnaire that individually addresses the domains most likely affected by the disease and its treatment. With the development of the BCI these authors address this methodological shortcoming and contribute to the field of urological outcome research. Unlike prior instruments, such as the FACT-B1 and FACT-Vander-bilt Cystectomy Index of Cookson et al, which provide a single summary score for HRQOL (reference 14 in article), BCI provides an individual score in each distinct domain for a more detailed, comprehensive portrait of the survivorship experience.
