Mine Production

Workers at Codelco's Chuquicamata mine began a strike on 4th January after unions and management were unable to come to agreement over the terms of the new labour contract. The previous three year contract expired on 31st December. Following the first day of the strike, Codelco improved its wage offer and on 5th January, workers voted to accept the proposal, thereby ending the strike. Chuquicamata is expected to have produced around 358,000t of copper-in-concentrate and 150,000t of EW copper cathode in 2009.
