London—European CIF ARA thermal coal swaps made their fifth consecutive on-day gains this week at fresh highs Friday, due to supply tightness predicted for the start of next year, sources said. Platts assessed API2 Q1-14 swaps up 70 cents up from Thursday at $83.15/mt, and over $5 on the week, the highest level for a front-quarter API2 contract since May 28.
