Thin demand for bottle grade polyethylene terephthalate in NWE was reported this week, as very little volume was traded. “People are still covered. A lot of converters are not in a rush to buy,” a trader based in continental Europe said. “Demand remains sub-optimal due to uncertain weather,” a producer said. The NWE spot price was assessed at Eur1,070/ mt FD NWE Wednesday, unchanged from last week. There was one trade reported done at Eur1,040/mt, while buying interest was heard below Eur1,100/mt and producers pegged the price at Eur1,080-1,120/mt. Stock levels were heard to be high for June at most converters, with inventories expected to be depleted only in July. “Even if prices were to drop significantly, demand would not improve until the stock is decreased,” the producer added.
