Butadiene ended the week on something of an upswing Friday, but major markets were still down $5/mt from the week before to be assessed at $1,100/mt CFR China and $1,070/mt FOB Korea. Prices rose $20/mt Friday after inching higher on Thursday. Firmer domestic Chinese prices were also seen. On Friday, Platts’ domestic China butadiene assessment was Yuan 8,500/mt, up Yuan 100/ mt from the day before. At the start of the week, however, it was a different story, with prices sliding on each of the first three days. Sentiment from a 2,000 mt butadiene tender issued by Malaysia’s Lotte Titan Chemical — the results of which were announced late Friday after Platts’ assessment process had closed — may have played into Friday’s strength.
