The US acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene domestic assessment rose 4 cents on the week at 115 cents/lb delivered via rail car Wednesday as June price increases of 4-5 cents were accepted into the market, sources said. An 83-cent rise in benzene contracts between March and May was a primary reasons for the increases, sources said. Buyers had resisted the increases due to a 59-cent drop in benzene contracts for May to 225 cents/gal, sources said. However, benzene spot prices have climbed since the settlement, assessed Wednesday at 271 cents/gal FOB USG. Spot styrene prices dropped 1.5 cents on the week, assessed Wednesday at 56.25 cents/lb FOB USG tracking lower global styrene prices, sources said. Per industry feedback, market participants usually monitor benzene and styrene pricing primarily as styrene composes about 60-65% of ABS.
