Demand for purified terephthalic acid in Europe remained limited by a lack of activity in the downstream market for polyethylene terephthalate, as market participants awaited feedstock declines. Sources said that PTA producers were still running at reduced rates and that further production rate cuts were possible, mirroring those seen in the Asian PTA market. “Once PTA producers reach a level where they can start making a profit again, they’ll start processing PX,” said a trader. The Asian contract price for paraxylene for April was expected to settle Friday.
