The October US terephthalic acid price is set to move lower after sources said the US paraxylene contract -- the key variable used to set the formula-driven price -- moved down this week. The October PX contract settled at 73.5 cents/lb, a decline of 2 cents from the September contract price. Sources estimated that the October PTA price would be around 62.4 cents/lb, which would be a decline of 1.16 cents from September. A source said the PTA price would be finalized once the energy adjustment was known. The September PTA price was set at 63.56 cents/lb. Sources said lower PTA could lead to lower PET prices downstream. US contracts were unsettled for October.
