A division in the position of European ABS suppliers had emerged in this week’s market, according to feedback from sources. Offers for October contracts now ranged from levels close to rollover to around minus Eur50/mt. At a rollover price against September, ABS producers would be able to hold on to around a Eur50/mt margin which had been freed up by the combined feedstock settlements for the month. But, at minus Eur45-50/mt, this potential gain had been erased, a position which a number of suppliers deemed unacceptable given that, in the words of one source: “Margins are at a historic low.”
