The market for purified terephthalic acid in Northwest Europe looks set to move from balanced to long in the coming months as Artlant PTA announced it had begun delivering PTA from its 700,000 mt/year plant in Sines, Portugal, in a statement Friday. One PTA producer said volumes were slightly down on contracts, although it was unclear whether this was due to low demand from downstream PET producers or the more competitive PTA marketplace in Europe.
