US spot ethylene glycol prices were slightly higher this week, assessed at 43-44 cents/lb FOB USG as increased supply offset a slight bump in demand from the anti-freeze sector. Sources said that prices were seeing some support from the anti-freeze canning season but soft demand outside of that sector was keeping prices from rising. “The demand outlook is not good,” said one participant. Sources also pointed to increased supply as Indorama was heard to have lifted its force majeure at its 358,000 mt/year MEG plant and its 435,000 mt/year EO plant at Lake Charles, Louisiana, at the end of July though confirmation was not immediately available.
