Norwegian groups to invest in US Jones Act tankers

Stavanger—Oslo-listed groups American Shipping Company and Aker Philadelphia Shipyard said Tuesday they and investors were forming a new company, Philly Tankers AS, which would grow through tanker acquisitions among other things. American Shipping said it was to invest $25 million to help create Philly Tankers, while Aker Philadelphia Shipyard will invest $58.5 million. Philly Tankers will be a pure play exposure to the Jones Act market, American Shipping said, starting with ownership of two eco-design product tanker newbuilds to be delivered by Aker Philadelphia Shipyard in the fourth quarter of 2016 and first quarter of 2017.
