US rig count falls by 17

Houston—The US rig count was 1,744 for the week ended September 27, down by 17 from the prior week, according to Baker Hughes. The latest count includes 1,680 land and 64 offshore, with 376 assigned to gas, 1,362 to oil and 6 to miscellaneous drilling. The rigs were drilling 417 vertical, 242 directional and 1,085 horizontal wells.
