Washington—The Commodity Futures TradingCommission approved April 18 a long-awaitedfinal version of its swap dealer definition thatincludes several changes pushed for by theenergy industry for 16 months.The new definition dramatically raises thethreshold for being designated a swap dealer,creates a slew of new exemptions that werenot included in the definition proposed in late2010, and draws on a dealer-trader distinc-tion that a natural gas trade group had beenheavily lobbying to get.
